Finally got around to watching the last Doctor Who Christmas Special. Been avoiding it, but now that the new season has started, no excuse.

I was holding it all together pretty well until Amy Pond walked down those stairs. Aaaaand cue tears.

Everyone is reblogging pictures of Pumpkin Spice Lattes and sweaters and piles of leaves and I’m sitting here and it’s 90 degrees in Vietnam and it feels like my face is going to melt off.

Not fair.

It is not anti-Semitic to suggest that Israel doesn’t get a free pass to kill whoever it likes in order to feel “safe”. It is not anti-Semitic to point out that if what Israel needs to feel “safe” is to pen the Palestinian people in an open prison under military occupation, the state’s definition of safety might warrant some unpacking. And it is not anti-Semitic to say that this so-called war is one in which only one side actually has an army.

it bothers me that Kansas and Arkansas are not pronounced the same

I’m from the UK and I have been pronouncing Arkansas as Ar-Kansas my whole life

For all my non-american friends, Arkansas is pronounced ark-an-saw

why…?

Etymology nerd here!

Kansas was named for the Kansas River, which was named for the Kansa people (also known as Kaw).

The word Arkansas, however, comes from French. French explorers were the first Europeans to learn about a group of Native Americans, the Quawpaw, who lived in present-day Arkansas. The Quawpaw were referred to as Akakaze, or Akansa, which may have denoted relation to the Kansa people. The ‘s’ at the end of the word Arkansas simply comes from French. It’s easy to imagine ‘Arkansa’ being pronounced as ar-kan-saw - so the S is just silent, as it is in so much of French.

Breaking News: I’m back online!

No, I’m not at home. I’m on a ship, as of this writing currently docked in Okinawa, Japan. But Chris is here! And things are amazing and in addition to his already being the greatest thing to happen to me in a very long while, he gave my computer the internet hookup. So I am BACK.

Expect to be hearing a lot more from me!

NINE DAAAAAAAYS.

He gets here in nine days! I am so excited. He makes me my best self, and I am so happy that I get to see him every day until at least December. For someone who was a late bloomer into the world of relationships, I could not be luckier and I never could have imagined that one person could make me so happy.

Having to cancel my World of Warcraft account is one of the saddest things about going back to work.

NYC weekend was a smashing success. Walking tour of literally everywhere courtesy of my brothers, Grimaldi’s Pizza (Manhattan, nobody has time to wait under the Brooklyn Bridge), fancy drinks, brunch, orchestra box seats for Violet starring the queen of musical theater Sutton Foster, and a fancy Korean restaurant.

Broke and exhausted, but wow fun!

五月天 - 干杯

This is a really charming song by Taiwanese band Mayday called “Cheers”, and the video starts off all adorable and by the end there were tears. Watch. Even if you don’t understand a word of Mandarin.
